Libra New moon
Lunar wishes and intention cycles
Note
This is not the happiest wishful thinking new moon, so its not the best time to seed any wonder wish. Its good for action orientated and mental things: like taking action to find balance between heart and mind. Libra principles like relationships and justice are also appropriate, as long as you add the action part (doing a ritual is an action).
When
Do this when you can physically see a a sliver of moon, usually 12-18 hours
after the new moon. Ancients considered the new moon as when they could first see it, not some random time and date on a computer in the future.
Anytime in the next week is good as the moon grows in light.
Friday may be a good day, as it is Freya's day, or Venus day. Venus also happens to move into a happier place on 7/8 October, so Friday works nicely (NZ too). Monday is also a good day, as it is the Moons day.
How
Make it your own ritual, in your own way. I wrote briefly about
new moon intentions here. If you need a few steps for inspiration to expand that, here are some ideas to get you started. (The step by step is inspired by Emer over at
Tidal Soul Studio and her wonderful art magic newsletter).
You can keep your items in a little glass spell jar, use an amulet bag, or just wrap them in a square of material.
- Tune in to your soul and sift through the issues weighing on your mind, and the feelings banging at the gates of your heart.
- Choose one or more concerns that you would like to work on for the next 2 weeks (until full moon on 20/21 October) and physically write or draw them on a piece of paper.
- You can be cryptic, it doesn't have to be in perfect English. The important thing is to concentrate on the items you chose as you represent them any way you wish on the paper.
- Any physical form of communication is great as it captures the essence of Mercury.
- On your paper, add the symbol of Venus for some lucky help from the lady of the Libra house, as well as the crescent moon to call in La Luna's new energy.
- Gather any items at hand to represent the four elements (get creative!).
- For FIRE you can use literal fire, the embers on the incense stick, a candle, or something red.
- EARTH can be soil, seeds, a pebble, a crystal - anything from the earth, or something green.
- For AIR, the smoke of an incense stick does nicely as it represents the smoke that reaches for the heavens; or perhaps a feather, dandelion seed, or something yellow.
- Add WATER for
the oceans that nurture your heart, or a blue item.
- Put on some music to get you in the mood, or sit in nature's whistling wind, as it suits.
- Clear the space surrounding you as well as the items.
- You can use herbs, a crystal grid, sounds - or just imagine a white or gold bubble of protection surrounding you (above you, around you, and underneath too).
- Hold your piece of paper in your hands and concentrate on your intention / issue at hand.
- What is it you want clarified and nurtured, or resolved?
- Imagine it it were remedied - what would it feel like, sound like, look like?
- Imagine that resolution. Stay there for a while, entranced in your desired outcome.
- Place the paper in the jar, or on the material.
- Call on each element to help you manifest your intention as you hold the corresponding item in turn. If an item is not flammable and fits, you can put it the spell jar (e.g. crystal), on the material, or simply just back down in front of you (e.g. carefully light the candle).
- Imagine the wind whistling in to clear the air and clarify your issue.
- Feel into the earth that grounds your mission, the crystals that power it.
- Imagine the fire metaphysically purifying your intention, and helping you realise what's next.
- Merge with the water that nurtures your intent, and helps fulfill its purpose.
- Remember to state (in your mind or out loud), that this is all for the highest purpose, to evolve your soul, and that there is no intent to harm anyone or anything.
- Call on the deities you wish to assist you on this quest.
- Or you can simply just concentrate on a white or golden light beaming on you and your items from the universe - powering up those intentions, and setting them free to grow.
- Hold the jar or bundled items once more.
- As you close the jar or wrap the bundle, energise it with your clear request.
- Say thank you for the help you've requested.
- Put the jar away (closet or drawer) for the next 2 weeks and forget about it. You've put all your thought and energy into it, and handed it over to the universe.
- After the next full moon, open your jar, remember your intentions. Have you found clarity, a resolution, an idea, a way forward? Thank the universe, elements and deities. Thank yourself for the attention you've put into your growth.
- Burn the paper if you wish, and close the cycle.
- You can empty the jar / material bundle and re-use the items.
- Go forth in gratitude and love to the next cycle, where you release what hasn't sprouted.
- Mercury will also turn direct at this time, which will bring about a realisation in your intention.
P.S. 13 is a lucky Goddess number. Venus and the earth revolve around the sun in a cycle that creates a five pointed 'Rose'. It takes 8 years to complete the cycle. 8 + 5 = 13.

Libra Stellium
Let's start with the Diplomat at the party (Libra)
As I'm sure you've gathered by now, this time is heavily influenced by Libra. So let's start there to try understand these energies.
The sign and constellation of Libra is represented by the scales of justice.
- Libra is an AIR sign, which represents intellect, learning, thoughts, ideas etc.
- Libra is a YANG sign, which embodies assertive ("masculine") archetypal energies.
- Libra is a CARDINAL sign, representing change (of season).
All these signatures give Libra the ability to do things, to make stuff happen.

- Libra is ruled by the planet VENUS
This imbues Libra with her wondrous Venusian qualities: composure, elegance, poise, and charm.
Putting those together
Libra in a good situation ... you get a world renown diplomat who can work a glamorous event with ease, and get that agreement signed. The pissy side of this diplomat (perhaps the next morning after a few bottles of champagne and almost no sleep), is a passive aggressive streak.
A diplomat in a good mood can deliver a subtle slap with witty panache and flair that melds into the festivities with no recourse. A diplomat in a bad mood can send a thousand tiny paper cuts that wedge deep into your heart. A diplomat is usually prepared to say something, and share their thoughts, just not always directly.
At the end of the day, a diplomat can simply not allow themselves ever to be seen as anything other than wonderful. This can actually hamper their own or someone else's sensibilities. That is why sometimes a Libra person can be described as indecisive. They don't want to be the bad person, they want to keep the peace, even to their own detriment.
Now add a Mc with a microphone (Mercury)
The planet Mercury is the messenger. It runs between heaven and earth delivering messages from the gods to the humans. It is able to be Yin, Yang, and every shade or scent in-between. It is a chameleon, absorbing mannerisms from it's surroundings.
Mercury is also in Libra, and is currently retrograde.

This messenger's usual focus is to play Master of Ceremonies (Mc). It keeps things moving along, all the while ensuring the whole room is entertained and informed. Mercury in Libra is spectacular at doing the stylish social butterfly thing.
Imagine that Marvelous Mercury MC hanging out outside on the steps, a little drunk, a little sad and very introspective ... and still holding the microphone. _______________ Fill in the blank with all those awkward moments you see in bachelor/ette movies!
A retrograde Mercury is slow, it turns inwards.
It stops, catches it's breath and searches it's heart and mind for why the hell it is doing what it is doing. It may wax lyrical about missed opportunities, shed some tears, and share some wishful ideas for the future.
The point being - this Mc with a microphone needs a break too. It may just happen to be while at party when it has a job to do! In retrograde season, if you don't make time for this mind/heart balance digression, it may make time for you, perhaps at a rather inopportune time!
So, if you need to, handover the microphone, take the break, and go gaze at the stars.
Mercury represents the Magician in the tarot. It is the alchemist that joins the heavens with the earth and makes magic happen. Here's what is interesting, it doesn't do that using unattainable fairy dust, it uses everyday things and thoughts to make the magic.
If you take the breaks, indulge the musings, you may find when it goes direct (18/19 October) you start finding ways to make your wished for magic start happening in real life!
Then throw in a few itchy scratchy party guests (Mars)
Mars is front and centre again, right in the middle of this party.
These buff and driven folks want to do stuff, important stuff, but are being politely restrained by social convention. The disgruntled party guests have really had enough of being polite, and just want to break free and leave already.

Why Mars is key here
Mars is not just a primped guest trying to find a way to excuse themselves, they are actually the hero of this story.
When the Moon joins the Sun for new moon at 13 degrees, Mars is also right there, at 13 degrees. What is significant is that later that same day,
Mars exactly conjoins the sun to start a new 2 year synodic cycle.
It is a new beginning of sorts, like a new moon, but for Mars - a new Mars.
The sun is so bright, Mars will be hidden for a while, but when it emerges out the other side, just like the moon it will catch some rays and start to grow in light again.
Until then you may be feeling a bit run-down, tired, wan. Your light is dim. Use this time to get your priorities straight, to tune-in and re-centre. The energy will be raised again by mid to end October (lots of new direct stuff coming!).
The hero of this quest
Everything you've just read about Libra embodies the spirit of this new Mars cycle being born from within Libra. This energetic planet will take forth some of that diplomacy, justice, and social restraint - a party favour of sorts.
Mars is the warrior, the spice, the passion, the drive that gets us going. It's the flame that burns our soul to do something. It's the quest.
Imagine that diplomat we mentioned was Clark Kent. When he leaves the party he heads home through an alley. While he's walking under high rises in the dark, he starts stripping off the jacket, tie, and stiff shoes ... When he emerges on the other side, he is now dressed as Superman, ready to fight for justice, run, jump and fly for good.
That's what is coming, a renewed, invigorated spirit, ready to fight for fairness. You'll start feeling that drive pickup by the end of October.
In the meantime, watch the sharp words and frustration. You're still at the party, you still have to behave. But start contemplating your next move, the time is coming when you will be asked to be the hero of your own quest, to fight for justice and what's right for you.
In this new cycle - try to keep returning to your authentic truth. Fight for what's right, but also for yourself - its about balance. There is an opportunity to use charm and diplomacy to achieve your desires.
And for you Libra birthday babes and hunks
This Stellium energy is giving you a louder and prouder voice over the next year! You may find yourself braver and more assertive, better able to stand up for your needs. It may even last for the next 2 years as the cycle plays itself out.
Think before you speak, but do speak! Direct action and communication will often solve the issue you are concerned about faster than trying to maneuver around it, giving you that peace of mind you so desire. Being yourself is why people love you, its perfect, and enough!

Phew, a lot of noise and no motion (yet)
That was a boat load of info, and I guess it can get a bit Astro geekie.
Here is the summary:
- Ponder how to find balance between your heart and mind to put your soul at ease.
- Use this time to charm and be diplomatic, but don't sell yourself short, be authentic.
- Design a new moon ritual for yourself on Friday or Monday to get universal input on this turmoil, and find clarity.
- Try manage the frustration of not moving forwards by doing something active, even if that is actively making a gap to rest.
- There is a lot boiling and bubbling at the moment, things may go wrong, it just is.
- Be kind to yourself as you use these two weeks to restore and renew, it's ok to be rundown, the up is coming.
There's a lot of action coming later this month, from as early as the 10th. So take some R&R, and enjoy watching the wondrous new moon as it grows in light. Your life and intentions may start getting a bit more energetic at the same time!
